About Joanna Levesque
(JoJo)
Joanna
"JoJo" Levesque was born December 20, 1990 in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
Her father was a blues singer, and her mother sang in her church. Her mother
gave her "singing lessons" when JoJo was still a toddler by teaching
her nursery rhymes while accompanying her on the piano. The 13-year-old
phenomenon's big break came at age six on Bill Cosby's "Kids Say the
Darndest Things" when she wowed the crowd with Aretha Franklin's
R-E-S-P-E-C-T. A call from Oprah Winfrey and a spot in the limelight were the
result. JoJo is the youngest singer to ever reach Number One on American Top 40,
which she did with her song "Leave (Get Out)." She is also the
youngest ever VMA nominee - for "Best New Artist" in 2004. JoJo toured
Europe with Usher in the summer of 2004, and can be heard performing
"Secret Love" on the "Shark Tale" movie soundtrack. She
currently lives in Edgewater, New
Jersey. In 2006 she appeared in the movie Aquamarine
and RV.
