John
Joseph Travolta was born February 18, 1954 in Englewood, New Jersey to Salvatore
and Helen Travolta, the youngest of six children. As a youngster, his mother
enrolled him in drama school in New York, where he found steady work in regional
theater, summer stock and TV commercials. He first appeared on Broadway at age
18 in "Grease." He had minor roles in several popular series',
appeared in the movie "Devil's Rain," and in 1975 landed the role of
Vinnie Barbarino in "Welcome Back, Kotter," a persona which launched
him into the lead role in 1977's "Saturday Night Fever." The 1980's
saw his career languish, but he made a comeback in 1989 with "Look Who's
Talking." His return to fame was complete with an Oscar nomination for
1994's "Pulp Fiction." Travolta and his wife actress Kelly Preston
have two children. They own homes in California, Maine, and Hawaii in addition
to their main residence in Ocala, Florida, which is complete with airstrips for
John's several jets.
