About Joss Stone
Read anything about this young talent, and you’ll
inevitably find the phrase “old soul.”No
wonder, for how else to describe the phenomena of a voice so seasoned and
sophisticated coming from a giggly, blond teenager.Joscelyn Eve Stokes first introduced the world to that voice at the age
of 14 on the popular BBC show Star for a Night, to the surprise and delight of
the audience.
Sensing imminent success, Joss’s mom Wendy quickly
changed her daughter’s name to the more album cover friendly Joss Stone and
whisked her offto New York
to meet with S-Curve CEO Steve Greenberg. The
entranced Mr. Greenberg signed her immediately and turned her over to Miami
soul legend Betty Wright for fine-tuning.Wright
teamed Stone with Guitarist Little Beaver, organist Timmy Thomas and keyboardist
Benny Latimore. In a mere four days
the group recorded several soul favorites and covered the White Stripes Fell
in Love with a Girl (now Boy) with
help from The Roots. The result was
the debut of Soul Sessions in
September 2003.More
