About Mel Gibson
Mel
Columcille Gerard Gibson was born on January 3, 1956 in Peekskill, New York, the
sixth of eleven children to parents Hutton Gibson, a railroad brakeman and Ann
Gibson, a native Australian. Hutton moved his family to Sydney, Australia in
1968 with his winnings from the quiz show "Jeopardy." After high
school, Mel studied acting in Australia (where he roomed with actor Geoffrey
Rush) while performing at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts. Mel achieved
worldwide fame with the small budget turned blockbuster film "Mad Max"
in 1979. His career skyrocketed over the years; he continually tops the
Hollywood power lists, as well as the Most Beautiful People and Sexiest Man
lists. In fact, Gibson was chosen as People Magazine's very first Sexiest Man
Alive in 1985. Gibson has been married since 1980 to Robyn Moore, with whom he
has seven children. The family lives in Malibu, with a private chapel on their
grounds where Mel attends mass every day.
