CAMERON DIAZ TO HOST NBC’S “SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE” APRIL 9 WITH
GRAMMY WINNERS GREEN DAY AS MUSICAL GUEST
NEW YORK – April 5, 2005 –
Cameron Diaz hosts this week's "Saturday Night Live" with Grammy
winning, ground-breaking punk band Green Day on April 9.
Making her third hosting appearance, Diaz appears as her new
environmentally conscious MTV travel show "Trippin'" debuts. The
versatile actress made her debut opposite Jim Carrey in the smash hit
"The Mask." She followed that with several smaller, independent
films including "The Last Supper" and then returned to
blockbuster territory with "My Best Friend's Wedding" opposite
Julia Roberts. Her performance in the title role in the comedy hit
"There's Something About Mary" scored critical accolades as well
as huge laughs. Her varied credits that followed include: "Very Bad
Things," "Being John Malkovich," and "Any Given
Sunday" and "The Sweetest Thing." She starred opposite Drew
Barrymore and Lucy Liu in the popular "Charlie's Angels" films.
More recently, Diaz made two dramatic and award-nominated turns in
"Vanilla Sky" opposite Tom Cruise and with Leonardo DiCaprio and
Daniel Day Lewis in Martin Scorsese's Oscar nominated "Gangs of New
York." Most recently, she provided the voice for Princess Fiona in
the animated blockbusters "Shrek" and "Shrek 2" with
Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy.
Diaz is joined by musical guest Green Day who make their SNL debut. The
punk trio will perform from their triple-platinum, Grammy winning rock
opera "American Idiot." The band is enjoying its best reviews in
their 12 year career for the ambitious record which All-Music Guide called
"a masterpiece" and prompted Entertainment Weekly to proclaim
"Green Day Saves Rock" on one of the band's many magazine cover
appearances. "American Idiot" is currently residing in
Billboard's Top 10 Album charts and the record's third single
"Holiday" is already climbing. In addition, the band just
announced its first stadium tour.
“Saturday Night Live,” which premiered on October 11, 1975, is from
SNL Studios in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive
producer is Lorne Michaels. Steve Higgins produces. Marci Klein and Mike
Shoemaker are producers. Beth McCarthy Miller directs.
