Vegas Reverend Insists Britney Spears Was Sober at Wedding  4/25/05

The woman who married Britney Spears in Las Vegas has hit out at claims the pop singer was drunk during the 5am ceremony.

Reverand Charolette Richards has leapt to the defense of the Toxic star, who has been plagued with rumors regarding her sobriety ever since her whirlwind 55-hour marriage to school pal Jason Alexander last year (03JAN04).

Spears - now married to Kevin Federline - had the union annulled, sparking speculation alcohol was to blame for her poor judgment.

But Richards insists, "Trust me, she wasn't drunk when she got married. The fact is, she is very rich and didn't have a prenuptial agreement.

"She has a dream to be loved and cared for - it just didn't work out first time."
