Ryan Attacks Michael Parkinson For Terse Interview
4/4/06
Hollywood star Meg Ryan has launched a scathing attack on British chat show
host Michael Parkinson, calling him "a nut".
The actress claimed the veteran journalist offended her with his choice
of questions and spoke to her in a patronizing manor when she appeared on
his BBC eponymous-named show in 2003 to promote her erotic thriller IN THE
CUT.
Ryan's behavior shocked audiences and TV critics as she answered
questions with "yes" and "no" replies.
In reflection, the Sleepless in Seattle star tells the British edition
of Marie Claire magazine, "That guy was like some kind of
disapproving father. I don't know what he is to you guys but he's a nut.
"I was so offended by him. I was so uncomfortable. I felt like he
was berating me for being naked in the movie.
"He said something like, 'You should go back to doing what you
were doing.'
And I thought, 'Are you like a disapproving dad right now? I'm not even
related to you. Back off buddy!'
"I had to do 20 minutes straight with this guy."
Last year (05) Parkinson described the interview as his "most
difficult TV moment", adding, "I should have closed it. But
listen, it happens. She was an unhappy woman. I felt sorry for her.
"What I couldn't forgive her for was that she was rude to the
other guests."
Ryan was accused of rudely turning her back to British fashion gurus
Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine, who were sat only a few feet from
her during the interview.
