Silver hair Taylor tried singing Country Road, but it was more like a
scrubby dry dirt road.
Mandisa continues to slip. Last week was the Baptist revival and
tonight it was like listening to a shallow tepid stream. She can sing and
is fantastic, but she needs to pick better songs.
Elliott tried but he did not move us at all. He is intense and real,
yet did not take us with him on the ride. He is holding back and that is
not going to bring him the riches that he desires. He has been better in
prior weeks.
Hoop earring Paris continues to wed all of us. Her range is like the
mountains and we are beckoned to accompany her on the journey. She will,
no doubt, at least be in the final three, and at 16 years old, that's
quite an accomplishment.
Smoldering eyes Ace sang better than last week, ending with his
standard falsetto. The start of his vocals was forgettable, but he
improved as he sang. He has the looks for an American Idol but hasn't
gotten the expected votes.
Every time she struts upon the stage, Kellie's confidence grows like a
well tended garden. But outside her comfort zone of country western music,
is she really ready for American Idol expectations?
Chris tamed his rock 'n roll growling and substituted a legitimate
country twang. This singer has versatility and he is not scared to face
the unknown.
Miss America Katharine has a Wild West appeal. Untamed and ready to
roam, she has potential. But I thought tonight was country western fest.
She was more blues.
Bucky's singing had all the beauty of a mule skinner sharpening his
knife. He accomplished the task but there was no joy, no enunciation and
unless you had the music sheet, the words were incoherent. Bucky, I think
you are going to be on a stage headed east.
