Angelina
Jolie and Brad Pitt Upset Locals in Namibia
4/17/06
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's minder has been accused of threatening
locals in Namibia, as the actress prepares to give birth in the African
country.
According to local press reports, Mickey Brett has closed off roads
around the resort where the couple are staying, local children have been
chased off public beaches and reporters and photographers threatened with
physical violence.
Jolie and Pitt are expected to be in Namibia for the next six weeks as
they prepare for the birth. But locals are losing patience with the
heavy-handed behavior of Brett and the security team he has hired - who
are thought to be members of an apartheid-era counter-insurgency unit.
One resident tells a Namibian newspaper, "I sympathize with Brad
Pitt and Angelina because they do want privacy, but on the other hand they
are public figures and there is a lot of interest in their visit. From
what I hear they are nice people but their security guys most certainly
aren't."
Brett, who has worked for Nicole Kidman in the past, was arrested and
charged - but later released - following the 1993 murder of a millionaire
tycoon in London.
