Singer/actress Mandy Moore is obsessed with hit TV show American Idol and insists she would have auditioned for the show if she hadn't already found success in the music industry.

The Candy singer, who is starring in the movie American Dreamz - a spoof of the popular talent show - started her singing career aged just 15.

She explains, "I think if I hadn't sort of gone about things this route, I definitely would have taken the American Idol approach.

"I don't know if I would have made it that far. It's really nerve-wracking.

"I can't believe that these young people go on and in the course of four of five weeks have to discover who they are as performers and have to sing a different style of song every week.

"I just get nervous watching the show."
