Jake Gyllenhaal Saves Family From Fire  4/4/07

Jake Gyllenhaal has become a family hero after saving his parents, sister Maggie and her fiancé Peter Sarsgaard from a burning lodge.

The actor raised the alarm after a tree fell on a propane tank next to the Manka's Inverness Lodge in Marin County, California, where the Gyllenhaal family spent Christmas (06).

The tank exploded, setting the wooden lodge ablaze, but a fire alarm failed to function, leaving Gyllenhaal to get his family out of the burning inn.

The actor says, "My friend and I were staying in a lodge next to the main lodge and I woke and I heard this crackling... I looked out the window and the lodge was on fire, which terrified me.

"I ran outside and I started screaming for them and they came out, everyone was safe."
