“Seven Singers Singing”
By Marcus
If you are still working on your taxes, please feel free to take a
brief break for this week’s recap of the remaining seven singers.
Because tomorrow someone will be heading home while six others will remain
in the competition. Who is your favorite and better yet, why?
Tonight’s mentor for the seven is country western singing star
Martina McBride. Will her suggestions and insight into stage performance
aspect of singing help the contestants? Will they listen to her and
utilize her knowledge as the competition gets keener? Well, to help you
decide about her influence and more importantly how the seven performed,
here is a recap written just for you of tonight’s country twang
performances.
First up was Phil Stacey singing “Where The Blacktop Ends.” He just
sang it without making an emotional connection and he even had a little
sneeze of a wobble. And when he worked the audience, it was like he was
walking with arthritic knees. Overall, he was not impressive.
Seventeen year old singing sensation Jordin Sparks painted us a
masterpiece with her rendition of “Broken Wing.” It was flawless.
Then Sanjaya Malakar sang “Let’s Give Them Something To Talk About.”
Okay, let’s talk about his performance----it was flat and off key as
much as it could be. It was rough as a barbwire fence and it left us
wondering “why is this guy still here?” It is time to end the joke and
send him home. And we need to do it tonight.
LaKisha Jones’ “Jesus Take The Wheel” tried to hold our attention
and she emoted well. Yet, we didn’t feel that she claimed ownership to
the song and as a result, we eventually lost interest. And her ending was
marred by swallowing the lyrics.
Chris Richardson’s “Mayberry” was a like a cup of weakly brewed
tea that was left sitting too long on the counter. He didn’t “sell”
the song to us and it was also like listening to a slightly inebriated bar
singer on a Tuesday night.
“Trouble Is A Woman” is what Melinda Doolittle is to all the other
contestants. She is a pro and can sing anything. Tonight, she sang her
country song as if she had been born in a coal mining camp. She is the one
to beat in American Idol.
Finally it was Blake Lewis who ended the show with “When The Stars Go
Blue.”
It was okay. He sang it well but it was not special. It will not
remembered by tomorrow morning. He failed to connect with the audience and
it was like he was at home singing to himself.
And that is your recap for tonight’s American Idol. Return tomorrow
for the name of the “going back home” contestant.
On a personal note, I just want to express my sorrow and grief about
the slaughter of so many innocents at Virginia Tech. My deepest sympathy
goes out to the family members and with the rest of America, I am so sorry
for what has happened.
