Tonight was a special presentation of American Idol Gives Back with a multitude of corporate sponsors donating monies for poverty in Africa and in the USA.

Chris Richardson continues to entertain us with his hip-hop but is he really an American Idol finalist? Perhaps he can find his home in Vegas

Melinda Doolittle sang gospel and for the most part she redeemed herself from last week. It was a pleasant but not a memorable performance. By that I mean it did not leave us asking for more.

Blake Lewis performed “Imagine” which demands a heartfelt sincerity to make this song truly meaningful. He did okay but he was not great as he delivered some flat high notes and he was basically out of breath for his ending.

Shouting her songs has become an annoying habit of LaKisha Jones and her performance of “I Believe” was basically one long holler. Perhaps she has trouble reigning in her powerful vocals, but she needs to work on it and work on it quickly. And at times in the very beginning of the song, she was a little flat and tired.

I didn’t connect with Phil Stacey’s rendition of “The Change.” He just stood there as if glued to the mike and it was as interesting as listening to a block of wood. Phil is in serious trouble.

Teenage sensation Jordin Sparks brought down the house with her “You’ll Never Walk Along.” Her emotional connection to the song and to her audience had our full attention and earned her a standing ovation. We could ask for no better performance.

We now have just these six contestants and tonight millions of votes will be cast.
