“No Packing Tonight”

Tonight was a special two-hour “American Idol Gives Back” fund raiser with the hottest groups and the biggest names in the business, including: The Irish Lad

Bono, Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson, Earth, Wind & Fire, Keira Knightley, Hugh Grant, The African Children’s Choir, Jack Black, Gwen Stefani, Helen Mirren, Quincy Jones, Carrie Underwood, Annie Lennox and others. But that is not the purpose of this recap for you. Rather it is to inform you of the next Idol contestant to be sent home.

After casting more than 70 millions votes, the results are as follows: no one was sent home. Yup, the producers decided that sending someone home would be contrary to their charitable aims and all six contestants are presently safe. That is, safe until next week when the votes cast yesterday will be added to the votes cast next week. And then not one but two contestants will be off the stage permanently.

And what a relief tonight’s decision was to both Chris Richardson and Jordin Sparks as they were the last two standing and everyone thought that one of them would be leaving. It was first announced that Chris was “safe” and upon hearing that, a hush fell upon the audience in disbelief that Jordin with her uniquely sensational voice would be voted off. But then they announced that all were safe, until next week.

Whew. Had Jordin been booted off, there would have been a riot.
