Brad Pitt Stuns American Idol Crowd - By Showing Up  4/8/08

Brad Pitt stunned the crowd at the taping for American Idol's second annual fundraiser Idol Gives Back on Sunday (06Apr08) - by simply showing up.

A sold out Kodak Theatre audience in Hollywood was treated to performances by Miley Cyrus, Snoop Dogg and Carrie Underwood, and though actor Pitt was among those billed to appear, many expected to see him as part of a video message.

So, when he actually walked out onstage, the place went wild.

Pitt had to delay his spot on the show, which airs in America on Wednesday (09Apr08) until he could be heard above the din.

Smiling Pitt, who was obviously stunned by the response to his presence, used his appearance to focus awareness on the hurricane-devastated areas in and around New Orleans, Louisiana and the charity he has helped create there.

But Pitt's magical moment wasn't the only highlight of the show - Fergie performed one-handed somersaults during her performance with Heart and Mariah Carey hit the high notes with a stunning finale.

Event organizers hope to raise $100 million for various charities from this year's Idol Gives Back telethon.
