Simon Cowell Was Not Top of the Class  4/23/08

Music mogul Simon Cowell has surprised his mother with his success - because he was a flop at school.

The 48-year-old has made a multi-million empire fronting talent contests American Idol and the X-Factor, as well as managing acts under his television production and music publishing house Syco.

But his mother Julie, 80, admits there were no early signs of success.

She says, "He was awful at school. He didn't bother at all and we were really disappointed."
