Julia
Roberts Talks About Clever Composting
4/23/08
Oscar winner Julia Roberts started composting in her back garden after
feeling guilty about the amount of food she scraped off her children's'
plates after meals.
The actress' waste-not-want-not attitude began when her third child was
born last year (07) and she started realizing just how fussy her kids
could be.
The Pretty Woman star has been environmentally conscious for years, but
when she became a mother she realized there was a chance to do more.
Appearing on an Earth Day Oprah TV special in America on Tuesday
(22Apr08), Roberts explained, "Once you have three kids the amount of
food that goes into your garbage can starts to just... I just cry and
scrape plates and think, 'How can I be doing this?'"
And the actress admits she's greener than ever thanks to tips she's
taken from pal Sophie Uliano, who has just written an advice book for
those who want to be more organic and less wasteful, called Gorgeously
Green.
Brit Uliano joined best friends Roberts and Oprah Winfrey on the show
to promote organic foods. The actress revealed she's feeding her
10-month-old tot Henry organic baby food.
The ladies were in for a surprise when Uliano opened a can of worms,
literally - she took the lid off a worm farm composter prompting Roberts
and Oprah to jump back as the invertebrates wriggled to the surface.
Uliano tried to calm the panicked pals by yelling, "Don't panic,
girls!"
Game Roberts then agreed to tip 200 worms into a garbage can.
