“Six Idols Standing”
April 22, 2008 Episode
By Marcus
This evening was dedicated to “The Best of Broadway” with David
Lloyd Webber. The first up was a totally rejuvenated Syesha Mercado who
captured the audience with a hot jazzy rendition of “One Rock And Roll
Too Many.” We are finally seeing just how talented is this performer and
you know what? She may be the one to beat.
Next was a struggling Jason Castro singing “Memory” which was not
his best act. He seemed to be uncertain as he was reaching for some of the
high notes.
This was one of his poorer efforts and that makes me think that he was
preoccupied with something other than his performance.
Brooke White stuttered the first few words of “You Must Love Me.”
She apologetically and softly said “I’m sorry” and restarted. Was
she able to regain her composure? Yes, completely. Her ability to revive
herself is the mark of true professional who not only knows but believes
that ‘the show must go on.’ We are proud of you, Brooke.
The fourth singer was David Archuleta singing “Think Of Me” which
was originally written for a female singer. Yet, he was able to give make
the song his as he again gave a practically flawless rendition. He
continues to one of the best singers this season.
Carly Smithson tried to blast her way through “Jesus Christ Superstar”
like a
Medieval battering-ram, but instead she was so terribly disconnected
with her back-up singers that she sounded amateurish. I felt embarrassed
for her and predict that she will be gone this week.
Last to sing was David Cook passionately singing “Music Of The Night.”
But his facial expressions were anything but seductive. Had he been able
to combine the passion and the seduction, he would have stolen the show.
Return here tomorrow evening to learn which idol was sent home.
