NEW YORK, Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyperion announced today plans to
publish a new book by Teri Hatcher. The book, to be entitled BURNT TOAST,
will be published in the spring of 2006.
The book will be an inspirational work of non-fiction, with Hatcher
sharing snippets of her own life with women everywhere, with commentary on
what she has experienced and learned, in the hopes that her own encounters
and understanding might inspire and motivate other women in some small
way, as there have been so many inspirations to Hatcher in her own life.
With her trademark down-to-earth humor and a fresh, realistic point of
view, Teri Hatcher's BURNT TOAST will offer an original perspective on
life -- from the woman who won America's heart when she stood up on
National television and proclaimed herself a "has-been" on the
same night she received the prestigious Golden Globe Award for Best
Actress in a Comedy, for her role of Susan Mayer, and her deliciously
deadpan delivery, which America tunes in to see every Sunday night on
"Desperate Housewives." A bona fide pop-culture phenomenon,
Desperate Housewives has quickened pulses nationwide to generate the
highest ratings for a new show in the 2004-2005 season, and was the top
new drama on all of television in the last ten years among Total Viewers
and Adults 18-49.
The much-talked-about role -- for which Hatcher earned a 2005 Golden
Globe Award (Best Actress in a Leading Role, Musical or Comedy,
Television), as well as a 2005 Screen Actors Guild Award (Outstanding
Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series), and most recently, a
2005 Emmy Award Nomination, finds her playing a single mom searching for
love amid the sometimes sordid, always intriguing goings-on of her
suburban neighborhood. The part comes naturally to the actress, who is a
single mother to her seven-year-old daughter, Emerson Rose. It is from
these experiences that Hatcher draws for the core material for BURNT
TOAST.
Her present visibility on television -- Hatcher first made a splash on
TV as Lois Lane in "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of
Superman" -- and in the media follows years of success in feature
films, including SPY KIDS (directed by Robert Rodriguez), TOMORROW NEVER
DIES (opposite Pierce Brosnan as Bond girl Paris Carver), SOAPDISH (with
Kevin Kline), THE BIG PICTURE (her first movie; the Christopher
Guest-directed picture remains her favorite) and 2 DAYS IN THE VALLEY
(with Charlize
Theron and James Spader).
The announcement was made by Hyperion president Robert S. Miller. Of
the deal Miller said: "We're very excited to be publishing Teri's
book because Hyperion feels that Teri has much to say that will be
valuable to other women. Burnt Toast isn't a memoir -- Teri's much too
young for that -- but it will draw on experiences from her daily life to
which we feel that many woman can relate, and they certainly don't have to
be a celebrity to relate to Teri Hatcher."
Of the book/deal Hatcher commented, "I have had many women
approach me, sharing their own stories, and ask me how it feels to have a
second chance at 40. With this book, I truly hope to reach everyone that I
don't bump into on the street and share my story."
Miller negotiated the deal for Hyperion, who retains world English and
translation, first serial, and audio rights. Hatcher is represented by
Paradigm. Senior editor Kelly Notaras will edit the book.
