ABC
Announces 8/14 Premiere of Comedic Reality Series "My Kind of
Town"
8/4/05
GREENVILLE, ALABAMA -- YOU'RE "MY KIND OF TOWN," WHEN ABC'S
NEW COMEDIC REALITY SERIES PREMIERES, SUNDAY, AUGUST 14
The premiere episode of "My Kind of Town" will celebrate
Greenville, Alabama, SUNDAY, AUGUST 14 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC
Television Network. Recently, about 200 residents of the town flew to New
York to tape this episode of the show, hosted by British TV and radio
sensation Johnny Vaughan.
In the premiere, "Episode 101," hilarious surprises and
amazing rewards abound for the townsfolk. Who will witness the demise of
arguably the rattiest pair of footwear in the state? Whose home literally
won't be there when she returns to Greenville -- much to the homeowner's
delight? Which 12 residents in the town recently posed for a naked
calendar? Which local high school football star is going to win his body
weight in meat by playing "Extreme Musical Chairs?" And will one
townsperson crack under the pressure of trying to win prizes for his
fellow Greenville residents in the audience?
"My Kind of Town" is a relentlessly energetic primetime
studio show in which real American people, in all of their imperfect and
awkward glory, have the chance to become the stars of their own show for
one memorable night. Each week a lucky handful of residents selected from
among the townspeople in the audience will participate in individualized
comedic games and gags for prizes tailored to their own lives, interests
and needs. One person from the group is chosen to play the big end game,
where they will shoulder the burden of either winning or losing a huge
prize for the other townspeople in the audience - all of whom they will
see every day for the rest of their lives. No pressure!
Upcoming towns to be spotlighted on the series include: Bordentown
City, NJ; Ellenville, NY; Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin and Hopedale, Massachusetts
(airdates TBD). Two additional towns will be announced at a later date;
the series has a seven-episode order.
"We selected these small towns from a field of hundreds, because
we instantly fell in love with them and think our viewers will too. These
towns have unique qualities and extraordinary, memorable people that we
believe will transcend universally," says executive producer Michael
Davies ("Who Wants to be a Millionaire").
This variety/comedy hybrid promises big atmosphere and energy,
emotional wish-fulfillment, unexpected twists, laugh-out-loud comedy and
the occasional celebrity. "My Kind of Town" is produced by
Pressure Productions, a joint venture between Embassy Row LLC and Monkey
Kingdom Limited. Executive producers are Michael Davies, David Granger and
Will MacDonald, and co-executive producers are Janine DiTullio and Kelly
Kimball. |
