Infidelity Expert Discusses Jude Law and Celebrity Infidelity on the
Today Show
Can cheating men like Jude Law be frightened into being faithful?
Should Sienna Miller take Jude back? Infidelity expert, Ruth Houston tells
Today Show audience about celebrity infidelity.
(PRWEB) August 24, 2005 -- Can men be frightened into being faithful?
That's the question infidelity expert Ruth Houston posed about Jude Law
on the Today Show Monday morning. The possible reconciliation between Jude
Law and Sienna Miller was the topic of discussion. Houston, who is
frequently called on by the media to comment on celebrity infidelity, told
the Today Show audience that only time will tell whether or not Jude Law's
highly publicized infidelity experience was enough to frighten him into
being faithful.
Expanding on her Today Show comments, Houston, the author of "Is
He Cheating on You?" explains: “Cheaters become repeaters if they
don't suffer any negative consequences as a result of their infidelity.
Sienna broke off her engagement with Jude, but it appears that she may now
be open to giving him a second chance. Has Jude learned his lesson? Will
the fact that he almost lost Sienna be enough to frighten Jude into being
faithful from this point on? We'll have to wait and see. Only time will
tell.”
As to the probability of Jude and Sienna living happily ever after
without further incidents of infidelity, Houston comments, "All
cheaters are not the same. Jude Law is an example of what I call an
'opportunistic cheater' – a person who cheats when there's an
opportunity to do so without getting caught. If Sienna takes Jude back,
she'll need to keep him on a short leash to make sure he doesn't have any
opportunities to cheat. She may not want to assume that burdensome
task."
Houston points out that all infidelity is not the same. “Jude Law's
situation was a clear cut case of sexual infidelity. He had no close
emotional ties to his children's nanny -- it was purely sex and nothing
more, a very different situation from another high profile case of
celebrity infidelity -- that of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Back in
January when the rumors first started, I labeled this relationship as a
case of emotional infidelity. I also predicted that it would undermine
Brad's marriage to Jen if left unchecked. And that's exactly what
happened. No one leaves their marriage for a one night stand or the type
of sexual affair Jude Law had with Daisy Wright. But a strong emotional
bond will cause a person to abandon their marriage for someone else; the
way Brad abandoned Jennifer Aniston for Angelina Jolie.”
Houston says the hardest part of restoring a relationship in the
aftermath of infidelity is rebuilding the trust.
“From this point on, Jude needs to be accountable to Sienna for all
his time. He need to let her know where he is and what he's doing at all
times. If he's not physically with her, he should to be accessible to her
by phone. It may sound unfair but that's the cost of cheating. If he's not
willing to do that, then he's made a statement about how important their
relationship is in his life.”
Though cheating celebrities get most of the attention, infidelity is a
common occurrence these days. Citing statistics that 50 – 70 percent of
men are cheating on their mates, Houston told the Today Show audience that
2/3 of the women being cheated on have no idea what's going on because
they fail to recognize the telltale signs.
Houston adds, "Jude's ex-wife Sadie Frost said she was not
surprised by Jude's episode of infidelity. So Sienna would do well to
familiarize herself with the telltale signs of infidelity so she'll know
right away if Jude is up to his old tricks.”
