Christina Aguilera Upset by Britney Spears Battle Stories  8/28/05

Christina Aguilera has hit back at press reports that constantly pit her against teenage pal Britney Spears.

The pop singer admits she has laughed off stories that have her battling with her former Mickey Mouse Club co-star and chart rival in the past, but she has decided enough is enough now that Spears is expecting her first child.

Aguilera is particularly upset by reports she told one journalist that she can't see Britney staging a comeback after taking time off to become a mum.

Aguilera says, "It's really sad to see that some tabloid magazines still have to manufacture ill will between Britney and me.

"We are both grown-ups and have the utmost respect for each other personally and professionally. If certain journalists want to throw their integrity out the window by spreading false information, then so be it.

"But I'm not falling for their lies and neither should my fans or (sic) Britney's."

In a posting on her official website, singer wishes Britney and her husband Kevin Federline nothing but the very best as they prepare to become parents for the first time.

She adds, "May they be blessed with continued success and future happiness."
