Kelly Clarkson Stunned to be Named First VMA Winner  8/29/05

Kelly Clarkson was so stunned to be named the first winner at the MTV Video Music Awards last night (28AUG05) she took her best pal up on stage with her - for moral support.

The American Idol winner took the stage to pick up her 'Moon Man' award for Since U Been Gone, admitting she hadn't considered she'd beat Gwen Stefani's Hollaback Girl in the Best Female Video category.

She confessed, "Oh God! I didn't have a posse, so I brought my friend Ashley, but thank you so much. I didn't know I was gonna win. My vote was for Gwen."

Kelly ended the MTV Video Music Awards in Miami, Florida, last night (28AUG05) by getting wet as it rained inside the American Airlines Arena. The rocker performed her hit Since U Been Gone, which won her two awards, at the show's climax and thrilled audience members by singing the song in the rain.
