British Apprentice Star Questioned Over Money Laundering  8/14/06

British The Apprentice contestant Syed Ahmed has been quizzed by police officers who suspect him of being involved in money laundering.

The 31-year-old, who is expecting a baby with his The Apprentice rival and eventual winner Michelle Dewberry, was arrested in the Chingford area of east London on Saturday (12AUG06).

The police investigation follows a complaint from an investor who loaned money to the computer firm Ahmed runs with business partner Afteb Ahmed, who is not a relation.

Property tycoon Terry Brady reportedly made a short-term loan of #400,000, and Aftab has been arrested on suspicion of money laundering and obtaining money by deception. British newspaper The Sun reports Aftab bought a luxury home with the money, and that Syed fell out with him over the issue.

Syed's lawyer Scott Ewing says, "Syed has been knocked for six and is devastated he has a stain on his business reputation which is wholly undeserved.

"This should never have been dealt with as a criminal matter. It is a straightforward dispute."

Syed has been bailed until 20 October (06).
