American Idol judge Simon Cowell has chosen a mirror as the one item he could not live without if he was stranded on a desert island.

The acid-tongued music mogul appeared on long-running BBC radio show Deseret Island Discs this weekend (12-13AUG06) and reinforced his reputation for vanity to presenter Sue Lawley.

When astonished Lawley asked why Cowell chose a mirror, he replied, "I am on my own, no one around, I might as well have a mirror."

During the show, Lawley asks her guests to choose the pieces of music they would take with them to a desert island, and allows them one luxury item.
