Oprah Winfrey Picks Students for Her New School  8/22/06

Oprah Winfrey has delighted 73 disadvantaged girls by surprising them with a place in the new school she is building in South Africa.

The legendary chat show host has spent more than $15 million (#8.3 million) on the educational centre built in the town of Meyerton, Johannesburg. She hopes the school will give the students a better chance in life and allow them to attend the "best universities in the world".

Winfrey says, "This is so exciting for me, for the girls and their families.

South Africa is like my second home and I want to give something here. I feel this project is blessed."
