Green-minded movie star Brad
Pitt is using his star power to launch an ambitious new drive to shave
millions off America's annual energy bill - by urging people to
"harness" natural resources.
The actor, who is currently in his adopted New Orleans, Louisiana,
helping the post-Hurricane Katrina clean-up operation, insists everyone
can do their bit for the environment and save a little money if they just
think about how they're getting their heating, water and electricity.
Pitt says, "The idea that we pay utility bills is absolutely
unnecessary.
There's the sun, you feel the breeze... and you've got water right out
there.
"Any one of these can be harnessed and we can integrate ourselves
into that eco-system and not only power our houses, but actually produce
energy for other parts of the city."
Pitt has become the famous face of environmental building group Global
Green, who are erecting eco-friendly homes in New Orleans.
The actor admits he's very proud of the revolutionary new housing
system, which uses solar energy and rain water to cut costs.
He adds, "The family that will live here will save 75 per cent on
their energy bill."
