Rockers Motley Crue has suffered a setback in their bid to sue drummer Tommy Lee's manager for lost wages - their legal action has been declared insufficient.

The band claims Carl Stubner's actions - when he advised Lee to shoot two reality TV series instead of join a Crue reunion tour - cost them millions and hurt their reputation.

But a judge in California has ruled that the legal papers don't support a cause of action, and he has given the band mates 20 days to re-file the papers with additional facts.

Motley Crue founders Nikki Sixx, Vince Neil and Mick Mars originally filed suit on 18 June (07) in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

The rockers claim Lee's flop TV show, Tommy Lee Goes to College, was a "critical disappointment and a ratings disaster," which made their band mate look like "a laughing stock who could not carry a drum beat."

The suit also claims that Lee's participation on another reality show, Rock Star: Supernova, "diminished the public's interest in Lee and their overall perception of his musical talents." The trio states that the band had to scrap a string of lucrative concerts because Lee was too busy working on reality TV shows. They claim the cancellations cost them $8 million.
