Movie star Russell Crowe has hit back at criticism he's too soft to run an
Australian rugby team, insisting the results speak for themselves.
The Gladiator star bought controlling interests in professional rugby
league team the South City Revellers last year (06) and has been criticized
ever since by the sport's elite.
Crowe and his business partner even appeared in a recent Australian TV
documentary, which riled his most outspoken critics when the actor was
caught hugging players and telling them he loved them.
Former South Sydney rugby league club players like tough guy John
Sattler were stunned when they watched the TV series.
Angry Sattler said, "It's a lot of bulls**t."
But Crowe is taking the criticism in his stride because he's convinced
the risk of taking charge of a rugby team has been worth it.
He tells WENN, "The team is setting new records for itself every
week and scored the most competition points since 1989.
"It looks like they might make the playoffs for the first time in
the same period so it's been a very positive first year in control."
