Denzel Washington Beats the Cold With Cash Gift  12/7/05

Denzel Washington has warmed the hearts and hands of Rocky Mount, Virginia, residents - by donating $25,000 to a charity which helps people struggling to meet winter heating costs.

The Manchurian Candidate star, 50, made the generous gift to the Winter Assistance for Rocky Mount program, as a gesture to his friend and Rocky Mount native Herman Boone - whom he portrayed in 2000 movie Remember the Titans.

The donation is thought to be the biggest the charity has ever received in its 19-year history.
