Brad Pitt Bed Donation Arrives  12/30/05

Brad Pitts's donation of 40 orthopedic beds to victims of the Pakistan earthquake in October (05) has started to arrive in Islamabad hospitals. 

The Troy star decided to make the gesture, worth over $100,000, after visiting the area with his girlfriend Angelina Jolie last month (26NOV05). The beds, of which the first arrived on Wednesday (28DEC05), will help those who were left unable to walk after the disaster. 

Executive director of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Science Dr Syed Fazle Hadi says, "It's not easy to look after paraplegic and quadriplegic patients, who are prone to bed- and pressure-sores if they stay in the same position for too long. "These beds tilt from side to side and move up and down using electronic switches and hydraulics. They will make it easier for nurses to move the patients every two hours."
