He lives in a pineapple under the sea….Now you can own him on DVD  12/3/07

SpongeBob is back, in his first made for TV movie, the two part Atlantis Squarepantis.

Fans will love this 93-minute, full screen offering of outrageous underwater hijinx, which includes not only the title cut, but six other episodes in addition to special features exclusive to this DVD.

Atlantis SquarePantis - In the feature two-part episode, SpongeBob and pal Patrick find the venerated Atlantian Amulet, which is the key to the mystery of the lost civilization of Atlantis.  The two meet their friends at the Bikini Bottom Museum to begin their journey together; however, each individual is on a personal quest.

The connoisseur Squidward, the blue octopus, is enthralled by the prospect of finding lost artwork.  True to form, Mr. Krabs sets his sights on the potential for treasure, singing “I’ve always known me true color was green” along the way.  Sandy Cheeks the inquisitive squirrel bristles with anticipation over the scientific discoveries to be, well, discovered.  The fiendish Plankton is determined to seek out whatever weapons he might be able to get his wicked hands on.

Of course, to reach an extraordinary place like Atlantis, one just can’t gas up the old minivan, so the gang uses an alternative (and presumably very clean-burning) energy source – song.

The travelers arrive at their destination to find the ruler, Lord Royal Highness of Atlantis, has a really familiar sounding voice … for some reason the lyrics to ‘China Girl’ are stuck in their minds.  Oh, yes, LRH is voiced by David Bowie, that explains it.  LRH proudly declares that he is the possessor of the world’s oldest living bubble.  SpongeBob and Patrick set out to see for themselves, and Patrick being Patrick, well, you know what happens next.  Pop goes the ancient wonder, and the chase is on.

As the deep sea troubles deepen for our friends, they chase microscopic germs and get caught inside a video game.  There is a little ditty about germs and the periodic table of the elements, but never fear – no brains were taxed in the viewing of this film.  Questions abound as the gang returns safely to Bikini Bottom.  Can a normal, everyday absorbent quadrilateral be content in his normal everyday life, once he has seen the wonders of Atlantis?  Do all beings have a need to control and dominance?  When is the sequel coming out?

Viewers will be left breathless, and will no doubt need to hit pause and get a fortifying snack, but there’s more!  Six more episodes, to be exact.  Don’t even get me started on the special features right now.

Money Talks – When the miserly Mr. Krabs is granted his wish to be able to talk to his money, he is shocked.  Shocked to find that the money does not wish to be hoarded, but rather – gasp – spent!  What is it thinking?  Silly money.  Can Krabs bring himself to part with his tightly gripped cash?

SpongeBob vs. The Patty Gadget – It’s John Henry all over again: man – er, sponge – versus machine.  We know that SpongeBob’s grilling skills are legendary, and he never backs down from a charcoal challenge.  But when Squidward produces a machine that he claims can out-grill the grilling legend, SpongeBob’s talents are put to the test.

Slimy Dancing – It’s that time again – the Bikini Bottom Dance-A-Thon is coming up soon, and to his great dismay, Squidward did not make the cut.  Plan B is to impart his skills and knowledge to an improbable protégé – SpongeBob himself.  Can these two unlikely cohorts even manage to find common ground, never mind claim the coveted Dance-A-Thon crown?

The Krusty Sponge New York , Paris , LA …. Bikini Bottom.  When one thinks of haute cuisine, they just naturally come to mind, right?  It seems that a food critic has been swept away by the scrumptious delights created by SpongeBob, and predictably, Krabs intends to make the most (money) out of the publicity.  Can SpongeBob handle his newfound celebrity with humility, or will his head swell until his fame bubble bursts?

Sing a Song of Patrick – The yellow fellow may not be the only denizen of Bikini Bottom destined for greatness.  There’s also….Patrick??  Yes, it seems that the pink starfish may be on the brink of rockstar(fish)dom.  Patrick has written a song, and his pal SpongeBob is convinced that if only they can get the song some airplay, it will be a huge hit.

Picture Day – ‘Schooldays, schooldays, happy Golden Rule days.’  What captures forever the fond memories of this blissful chapter in one’s life better than the school photo?  Such are SpongeBob’s thoughts as he carefully makes his way to school on the big day.  Can he make it there without wrecking his duds?  At least he doesn’t have to worry about keeping a shirt clean.
