Nicole Richie Launches Charity Giveaway  12/4/07

Pregnant socialite Nicole Richie and her rocker boyfriend Joel Madden hosted a surprise baby shower party for 100 shocked, expectant and new mothers on Monday (03Dec07).

The couple launched a charity foundation, which will be named after their first child when the tot is born next year (08), at the Los Angeles Free Clinic in Hollywood.

The charity will help young and struggling mums by handing over free baby equipment.

They handed out more than $200,000 worth of gifts at the launch on Monday.

Richie says, "The looks on their (mothers) faces were priceless. Some of them didn't even believe us. They thought they were joking."

Good Charlotte star Madden tells People magazine, "We want our child to be a part of the community, and to know that there's a responsibility to help the community.

"Sometimes people don't want to believe that me and Nicole (sic) are just a young couple having a baby and we're really excited. We don't really get to share our lives with people. It's nice to connect with people on a real level."
