PARKING WARS  -  A&E NEW REAL-LIFE SERIES FOLLOWS THE MEN AND WOMEN ON THE FRONT LINES OF THE PHILADELPHIA PARKING AUTHORITY

PREMIERING TUESDAY, JANUARY 8, AT 10PM ET/PT

PHILADELPHIA PARKING AUTHORITY FACTOIDS

GENERAL
• PPA was established in 1950
• # Calls received at Parking Violations Bureau 80,864 on an average each month.
• Average hold time is 19 seconds.

TICKETING
• There are 265 PEO's and 28 PEO Supervisors and 5 Head Supervisors.
• Average # of tickets written by PEO is 28-30 each shift.
• # of parking meters in the city - 14,500, they are now all electronic
• # of tickets issued daily for expired meters 2400
• Rush hour fine is $41
• Highest parking fine - Handicapped ticket is $301 but so is an abandoned vehicle ticket.

BOOTING
• Vehicles with three (3) or more unpaid parking tickets are eligible to be booted after their owners receive a series of notices.
• # of tags on boot list is 100,000 approx.
• # of heavy hitters (who owe over $700 in fines) is 55,220.
• Boot crews patrol streets in Center City, University City and neighborhood commercial areas.
• # of cars booted weekly approx 550.
• Booted vehicles will be towed after 72 hours from the time the boot was put on, if the boot has not been resolved;
• The booting program was established in 1983

TOWING
• # of cars towed weekly 950-1000
• Tow truck drivers tow 30 vehicles per week.
• They average 92 vehicles towed every day through the Live Stop Program in cooperation with the Police.
• About 60 vehicles are towed Saturday night from 6 p.m. to midnight.

IMPOUND LOT
• Lot 1 is 5.7 acres
• # of vehicles on the lot at any given time 1100
• 150-175 people come to Lot 1 to get their cars daily.
• Of those people 75% get their vehicles.
• Average time retrieving vehicle is about 15 to 20 minutes if they have all paperwork. If not of course it takes longer.
• Towed cars never claimed 30 %.
• Highest amount ever owed on a car is $21,444.
• Unclaimed cars, impounded motor vehicles, including those confiscated as part of Live Stop, are auctioned off to the public several times a week. Revenues from impounded vehicle auctions support the Philadelphia Public Schools
• 300 -325 unclaimed vehicles are auctioned each week.
