Brad Pitt Happy To See Families Move Into New Orleans Homes 12/3/08
Brad Pitt is delighted families have begun moving into the homes he
built in New Orleans, Louisiana - but wishes he could do more to help
the city that was left devastated by 2005's Hurricane Katrina. The
natural disaster left thousands of people homeless when the levees broke
and flood water washed away massive swathes of residential areas.
Pitt's charitable organization, the Make It Right foundation, has
constructed six houses to help residents who lost their homes in the
tragedy. The trust is already building two more properties, with another
14 planned for early 2009. Pitt says, "I'm really happy for the families
that are going to be here, but I can't help but think about the families
that aren't. It's a push-pull for me.
The excitement is that it's being proven, that it's working. The
frustration is that we have a long way to go. "You're going to see 100
homes here, mark my words. It's nice to see a few, but I'm anxious to
see 100, 150, 1,000. "It's amazing.
This place that suffered such injustice and so much death can become one
of the primary examples of a high-performance neighborhood. It really is
amazing." Pitt's love for the city is so strong, he cemented his ties to
the area by buying a home there for his partner Angelina Jolie and their
six children.
