Winslet to Take 'Lucky Charms' to Oscars' 2/25/05
KATE
Winslet believes her parents' presence at Sunday's (27FEB05) OSCAR
ceremony (05) will ensure she takes home the Best Actress trophy. The
British beauty has taken her "lucky charms", mother Sally and
father Roger, to the Academy Awards three times and is counting on her
talisman to turn her fourth nomination since 1996 into a golden statue
this weekend.
Winslet
is competing against Hilary Swank, Annette Bening, Catalina Sandino Moreno
and Imelda Staunton for the Best Actress award for her performance
as free-spirited Clementine Ktuczynski in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless
Mind. The 29-year-old actress says, "They've been with me to
all the Oscar ceremonies and the first thing I did after hearing of my
nomination was to call them and say, 'Get your frocks ready, you're coming
over.' "Well, my dad's not wearing a frock, of course, but he did say
he was going on a diet."
Winslet
is shocked the film has had so much resonance with Academy voters, and
comments, "This film came out nearly a year ago and it's amazing
people remembered it, but there's something about my character Clementine,
that sticks with you. "She has an amazing spirit and I think people
appreciate love stories that are original and very different from the more
formulaic stuff you get from the studios."
Winslet
was first nominated for Best Actress in 1998's Titanic and has received
two nominations for Best Supporting Actress, for Sense and Sensibility in
1996 and Iris in 2002. |
