Travolta Excited About New Rocket Power 2/26/05
John
Travolta is desperate to pilot an upcoming X-Team flight to the edge of
space because he thinks the project will boost airline technology on
earth. The Pulp Fiction star has been invited to take charge of a flight
to the heavens and he thinks the technology behind the idea will herald a
new age of air transport.
He
says, "It's going to lead us to airliners that could take us from New
York to Paris in 30 minutes or something. "The jet age hasn't really
changed since 1952 now that the Concorde is out of business... We haven't
changed our speeds. We're at the same speeds we were in 1952 and we have
to move on, we have to progress."
Travolta
admits he has looked long and hard at the new semispace rocket power and
he thinks it will make air travel faster and comfortable. He explains,
"You'd kind of take off normally to maybe 60,000 feet and then you'd
do rocket power into whatever altitude is best economy for that kind of
thing and speed and get as fast as you can and return the same way and
land as a normal aircraft." Travolta thinks this type of new air
travel will be "viable" in a decade. |
