Hollywood mother Catherine Zeta-Jones has turned down a lucrative lead role as a serial killer - because one of her victims was a newborn baby. The Welsh beauty was due to play the character Marther Beck - a real-life Forties serial killer - in a new crime thriller Lonely Hearts.

But the OSCAR-winning actress, who has two children - four-year-old Dylan and baby Carys - with husband Michael Douglas, has refused the role. A close source says, "As a mother herself, Catherine felt the baby murder was 'too close to home'. "The film makers are now considering two other British actresses, Kate Winslet and Kate Beckinsale. "But they are mothers too, and could feel the same way."
