Vegas is a city of make believe. You can make believe that you are
in
Paris
or in
Venice
. You can make believe that you are in a pyramid or climbing the
Empire
State
Building
. You can make believe that the driver of that ’59 grape blue Caddie
really was Elvis or the next pull of the slot machine absolutely
positively definitely has to pay off.
But when you audition before those American Idol judges, your make
believe hits cold harsh reality. And the reality is more often than not--
you do not possess and will never possess the superstar “it” factor.
Here is a brief recap of some of those dreams:
Tearful faked
Jamaica
accent Alexia simply failed to impress anyone.
The court jester wasn’t allowed to sing even sing a single note.
Seriously. Not a single note.
Rust red-headed Erica’s psychic sister’s crystal ball was
cracked.
But petite adorable belly dancing
Mecca
with her sweet exciting voice is going to
Hollywood
.
Vulgar ghost screaming Ryan’s attitude and voice was thankfully a
brief apparition.
Cowgirl prison counselor Heather’s country western song assured
her a ride to
Hollywood
.
Jason the gondolier couldn’t get rowing.
Singing loud enough to wake the long time dead, animal loving
Anthony returns home to his wife and to their 75 animals.
The adorable Pearson twins tried their best for musician dad, but
they just were not good enough.
Dancing David’s voice was overshadowed by his painful facial
expressions. I seriously
thought he had caught his foot in a bear trap.
Overly confident perfectionist Princess the Sassy’s voice was
short on quality.
But southern gentleman Taylor’s voice won him a
Hollywood
spot.
Was Vegas lucky? Were there some winners? Just like in gaming, the
odds are stacked against you and house always wins. But maybe for a select
few they will have the luck of the cards and win big time. Life is indeed
gamble. We all start out somewhere and we all finish the same. It is what
you do with that “in between time” that counts.
Throw the dice, contestants. Let’s see if you are a winner.
