Tom Hanks and TV talk show hostess Oprah Winfrey are the celebrities with the biggest advertising pull, according to a new survey.

Davie-Brown Entertainment hails the entertainment heavyweights as the most influential pair in America, as far as promoting commercial brands are concerned.

Oscar-winner Hanks and media mogul Winfrey were propelled to the top of the list because of their enduring appeal and the trust they inspired in the 1.5 million people questioned for the index.

Jeff Brown, president of Davie-Brown Talent, hopes the findings will be useful: "There was a void in the industry. There was no tool created for brands by brands to evaluate celebrities and their influence.

"We're trying to determine whether this person would help sell a product to a particular demographic."
