OLN JOURNEYS OFFSHORE AND INTO THE WILD WITH THE PREMIERE OF SURVIVOR:
PEARL ISLANDS
Rupert Boneham
and Jon “Jonny
Fairplay” Dalton Among Castaways
Stamford, CT (February 21, 2006) – On Wednesday, March 1 at 7 p.m.
ET, OLN®, the exclusive home of Survivor in syndication, will take
viewers back to day one of the 39-day adventure on the remote Pearl
Islands in the Gulf of Panama, the stage set for the popular seventh
season of the reality series. Facing a multitude of extreme factors,
including elaborate challenges, harsh and ever-changing island living
conditions, wildlife predators and their own conniving tribe mates, 16 men
and women battle it out for the $1 million prize and their chance to be
crowned the sole Survivor, holding viewers captive to the shocking twists,
turns and tension that carry the season to its final challenge.
Season VII kicks off with a splash when the contestants board a boat
headed for Pearl Islands, only to be told by host Jeff Probst, known for
stowing tricks up his sleeve, to walk the plank and swim to shore with
nothing but the clothes on their backs. The quest to outwit, outplay, and
outlast each other continues as we see contestants face challenges
incorporating blow guns, pirate lore, a battle at sea, a prison break,
musket shooting, and a multitude of other pirate-themed situations.
Physical challenges aside, the castaways also face the mental challenge of
being stranded on a remote island, in addition to Osten
Taylor’s “suicide” by tribal council to Rupert Boneham and Jon
Dalton’s middle-of-the-night fight that almost comes to blows.
Pearl Islands yields two of the most shocking twists in Survivor
history. The first when producer Mark Burnett secretly builds a third
tribe of members voted off the islands in the first 18 days, self-named
the “Outcast Tribe,” and brings them back with a vengeance on Day 19’s
special three-way Immunity Challenge. The Outcasts successfully beat both
of the original teams, forcing them to each vote someone out at Tribal
Council and allowing the Outcasts to vote two members back onto their own.
The second, and most scandalous, earned Jonny Fairplay’s position as
Survivor’s most-hated player when he told the biggest lie in the show’s
history, fooling not only the castaways but the producers and host Jeff
Probst, as well. Before Jon embarked on the Survivor adventure, he
secretly plotted with a friend that, if he makes it to the family reunion
reward, they would fake his grandmother’s death to win sympathy from his
tribe mates. His lie was ultimately exposed when producers called to offer
their condolences to the family, and Jon’s grandmother answered the
phone. The tribe members find out the truth when Jon’s grandmother joins
him during the Survivor: Pearl Islands reunion episode.
