American
Idol February 23rd “Four Dreams Dashed” 2/24/06
By Marcus
This show has too many
commercials. Okay, I know that someone has to pay the bills, but I swear
that the length of the actual show is only an inch or so longer than the
commercial length. Oh well, that is network TV in the
USA
and there is precious little we can do. But as individuals, we can do
something. My suggestion is to have your trigger finger itching just above
that powerful mute button. Then when the show fades and the ad
starts…..make like a gunfighter.
The big build up tonight was the vote tally and the good-byes to
four contestants. Of the 12 men, voters cast out Big Bobby and Smooth
Patrick. I never had the slightest doubt that Big Bobby
would be among the first to go. His girth alone would have precluded him
from Idol-worship. We want our stars to look like stars. Bobby had a dumpy
appearance with drunken eyes. However, I think that with his talented
voice and his hound dog look, he could be a successful comic/singer.
Smooth Patrick
is already performing and this is not the last we will hear from him.
He was voted off because he just did not sparkle before the judges and the
public. Perhaps he needs to take a little time for self-reflection to
reconnect with himself. Then with more confidence, he will achieve his
career goals as a decent but not a really outstanding singer.
And two women were also sent packing. Opera Diva Stevie
may be fluent in several languages, but she does not speak the
language of songs. She was wooden. She needed to relax, to slip into a
warm hot bath and caress herself with aromatic oils. Or just focus on
opera.
For all her beauty and sensuality, Becky
could not save herself from the boot. She is that rare self-assured beauty
whose entrance into a crowded room is met with hushed voices and pounding
pulses. She and her identical twin must find an aggressive manager who can
merchandise their loveliness into successful modeling.
We are now down to 20 hopeful Idol contestants. But for me, only
three or maybe four are real standouts. And I will make a prediction right
now that
Paris
and Lisa and Ace will be the last three standing.
