American
Idol Mania in San Antonio 2/7/07
By Marcus
Home of the River Walk,
sweet Jazz and the Alamo,
San Antonio
,
Texas
hosted the last audition for this year’s American Idol hopefuls. Let’s
review a couple of them.
First up was “take no prisoners” Brian the Texas Machine. His
growling, shouting and knee drops didn’t impress the judges. Maybe he
needs to try out for Extreme Wrestling?
Wearing a backless black pants suit, sultry Haley, who is a wedding
band performer, impressively won a gold ticket. But she needs to learn how
to sparkle to have any chance in the
Hollywood
meat grinder where good voices abound.
Gospel singer Jasmine failed to impress and then got an attitude
when told that she had no singing ability. Pray about that, Jasmine.
Cream and peaches describe 16 year old country girl Baylie. On her
family ranch they raise cows, lambs and horses. But this girl’s heart is
longing for the big city and with her exciting voice, she may get her wish
because she is heading to
Hollywood
.
Unemployed cousins William and
Akron
rolled the dice for their one opportunity to impress the judges. Bulky
William was off key and he knew it. He said he was basically at the
audition just to support his cousin. And his faith in
Akron
’s voice paid off big time with a gold ticket. Somewhere in
Akron
’s psyche is just a touch of greatness. And
if he is willing to listen and learn from some professional
guidance, he could become a fantastic singer performer. Mark this
prediction----
Akron
has the chance to become the next American Idol.
She didn’t sing a single understandable word. It was more or less
like she was singing in tongues. A tearful Sandie vowed to continue being
a vocal coach but her dreams of
Hollywood
was gone.
This next woman is a diamond in the rough. There is sparkled and
uniqueness in her voice but her facial grimaces diverted our attention.
She was told “no thanks, dear” and left the stage. But it was Simon
who convinced Paula and Randy to give Ashlyn
another chance. She dried her tears and returned for a very rare
second audition. This time, we heard more of her voice and she won a
golden ticket. But unless she can unlearn her facial antics, she will be
eaten alive by better performers. But I think she really wants to win and
I think she will be a major contender.
San Antonio
was the last of the American Idol city try outs and only 22 won a gold
ticket. But it ain’t over, baby. Because tomorrow we will hear the worst
of the worst. But what I am looking forward to is hearing who the judges
consider the best of the best. Stay tuned with me.
