Grant: "Watching Theatre is "Utter Misery"
2/20/07
British actor Hugh Grant hates watching theatre and would rather get
drunk during the interval than sit through a boring play.
The Music and Lyrics star is tempted to try his hand on the stage, but
as much as he enjoys acting in plays, he hates the idea of subjecting an
audience to something he feels is excruciatingly dull.
Grant says, "I've done a lot of plays and they're quite fun - it's
watching a play that's utter misery. That's why I couldn't really justify
going on acting in the theatre because I just knew that these poor b**tards
had paid a lot of money and were having a horrible time sitting out there
watching.
"Let's be honest, one in 50 visits to the theatre is actually fun.
The other
49 times, you're thinking: 'bring on my gin and tonic in the
intermission.'"
