American
Idol Results Show - A Quartet Low
2/23/07
By Marcus
The hopeful twenty-four finalists were judged by the American public
and that audience of millions has made the decision to cut four singers.
The male “bag-packers” are Paul Kim and Rudy Cardenas. The female “bag-packers”
are Amy Krebs and Nicole Tranquillo. There are really no surprises about
their departures. As predicted by me in yesterday’s article, both Amy
and Nicole did not perform well and were on the chopping block.
Although having a nice voice, Amy was not special and actually
struggled for some of her vocals. Meantime facial contortionist Nicole
didn’t have a chance. With so many talented women, she was simply out of
her league and her and Amy’s departure was expected.
Now, let’s look at the departing men. Paul would be more comfortable
singing on a Hawaiian beach instead upon a Hollywood stage. Okay, I didn’t
think that his barefoot appearance enhanced his performance but it
certainly distracted us from really listening to him. And when we did
really listen, there was nothing in his voice that gripped our attention.
Rudy Cardenas could get some gigs at a good Florida hotel. I don’t think
he would survive in Vegas, but the retirees in the Sunshine State would
probably enjoy his standard singing abilities.
But this is what I don’t understand. The dullest male singer was
Sanjaya Malakar. Well, maybe not the dullest, but certainly among the dull
male group. How he managed to avoid the bag-packing exercise is beyond me.
Next week we will again hear the men and the women. There are a number
of very powerful and gifted female singers. As to the men, well there are
a few who have a chance, but all in all the women are incredibly more
talented.
