Brandy's
Mom Blame Kim Kardashian's Broken Promise for Lawsuit
2/6/08
Brandy's mother has hit back at Kim Kardashian by insisting she had no
choice but to sue the reality TV star for credit card fraud - because she
failed to honor an earlier agreement to pay back the alleged debt.
Sonja Norwood - who manages her R&B singer/actress daughter Brandy
- filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court earlier this week
(begs04Feb08), alleging Kardashian abused the use of a credit card given
to her to make "one (and only one)" purchase on Norwood's
behalf.
Kardashian, who worked as a stylist for Brandy in 2004, is accused of
giving the American Express card to her siblings Khloe, Kourtney and
Robert Jr., who are also named in the legal action. They are alleged to
have run up debts of $120,635 on the card.
But while Kardashian has dismissed the accusations of credit card fraud
against her as "meritless", Norwood claims she and her family
admitted to the crime during earlier correspondence via their lawyers,
when they promised to pay back every cent.
When that did not come into fruition, Norwood felt compelled to file
suit.
She says, "I did not want to commence litigation against the
Kardashian family without conducting an exhaustive investigation into the
charges, and discussing all options, including criminal prosecution, with
my family.
"After Ray J (Brandy's brother) and Brandy urged me not to file
criminal charges because of their prior friendship, I decided to afford
the Kardashians an opportunity to resolve this matter without a lawsuit.
When the fraudulent charges were brought to their attention, they apologized
profusely, and advised us, through their attorneys, that they would pay
the debt in full. However, they have since reneged on that promise."
