Kevin and Cathy Nutsch and their five daughters from Douglas, Kansas,
who lost everything that was near and dear to them when their house
literally exploded, will receive a brand new renovated home thanks to the
team of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," airing SUNDAY, JANUARY
8 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
While on vacation in the summer of 2005, the Nutsch family received a
shocking phone call notifying them that a propane leak had caused a blast
that completely leveled their three bedroom bungalow -- not only
destroying their home but their business as well, since Kevin's auto
repair company was run out of their home. With their home, business and
all their belongings gone, the family is now living in the grandfather's
basement until they can get back on their feet. But the pain is almost
unbearable for Kevin, who still camps out on his property every night to
try to protect what few possessions the family still has.
It only took seconds to completely obliterate seventeen years of
memories for the Nutsch family, but Ty and the gang will work their
hardest to try to rebuild a large part of their lives. While the family is
away, the EM: HE gang help the Nutschs "pay it forward" by
helping another deserving family in need from the community -- who were
affected by Hurricane Katrina -- with a fundraiser event headlined by
country singer Martina McBride. Plus volleyball star Gabrielle Reece helps
decorate a special, themed room, and plays a little game of sideout with
Eduardo Xol.
While the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" design team,
contractors and hundreds of workers and volunteers, along with the local
builder Wichita Roofing and Remodeling, are building a new house for the
Nutsch family in a remarkable seven days, the family enjoys a vacation at
Walt Disney World.
The design team for this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home
Edition" will feature team leader Ty Pennington, Ed Sanders, Preston
Sharp, Tanya McQueen and Eduardo Xol. The series is produced by Endemol
USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It's executive-produced by Tom Forman
and co-executive produced by Denise Cramsey.
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is broadcast with Spanish
subtitles via secondary closed captioning. This program carries a TV-PG
parental guideline.
