Teetotal star Jonathan Rhys-Meyers has laughed off reports his Alexander co-star Colin Farrell inspired his past alcoholic behavior, insisting just being in a pub makes people want to drink alcohol.

The Irish star, who is now a gym addict and boasts a healthier lifestyle, began drinking heavily while filming the epic war movie, but dismisses the idea his co-star Farrell was responsible.

He says, "I didn't ever actually drink much before I was on Alexander. But then I drank loads of pints while I was filming it.

"And then I quit, but not because of Colin. I quit because of the pub.

"Do you think Colin was holding us down and pouring drinks down our necks? I don't think so."
