Jonathan Rhys-Meyers pays little attention to tabloid speculation about his love life, and believes the silent stance taken by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is the most effective way of dealing with unwanted attention.

The Irish Alexander actor is amazed at the amount of criticism Pitt attracted when he began a relationship with Jolie months after separating from his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston.

Rhys-Meyers says, "Look at somebody like Brad Pitt. How many hearts did he break by him going off with Angelina Jolie?

"Suddenly it's like, 'Ah, Brad cheated on Jen!'

"He left her for another woman because he found someone he liked more at that time. It just happens."
