Spielberg Wants Minute of Silence for Munich Victims
1/10/06
Steven Spielberg is hoping his new movie Munich will convince Olympic
Games organizers to inaugurate a minute's silence at future games in honor
of the eleven Israeli athletes killed at the 1972 Olympics in Germany.
The Oscar-winning Saving Private Ryan director hopes his powerful film,
which focuses on the Israeli Secret Service's hunt for the Palestinian
terrorists responsible for the murders, will see the tragedy finally
acknowledged at the 2008 Beijing games.
Spielberg's spokesperson Marvin Levy tells PageSix, "His goal is
to get the IOC to properly acknowledge the Munich massacre."
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has previously rejected a
public ceremony in honor of the Israeli athletes as "too
political".
